Massachusetts is the perfect destination for those looking to move to a place with beautiful beaches and scenery, fresh seafood, and a state big on sports. So if you’re considering renting an apartment in Boston or are looking at homes for sale in Cambridge, here are the top 7 reasons to move to Massachusetts.

1) Excellent schools and universities

The Bay State is home to several of the world’s top universities and colleges, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, Tufts University, Amherst College, Wellesley College, Emerson College, and many more. There are also excellent public schools throughout the state. Some top-ranking school districts include Newton Public Schools, Lexington Public Schools, Wellesley Public Schools, and Westford Public Schools.

2) Sports culture

Massachusetts is big on sports, from ice hockey and basketball to football and baseball. Pro sports teams include the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the New England Revolution. Massachusetts also has colleges with popular sports teams, including Harvard, Boston College, Northeastern, UMass, and Boston University.

3) Beautiful scenery

Massachusetts has beautiful beaches, including Singing Beach, Wingaersheek Beach, Cisco Beach, and many more great spots surrounding Cape Cod Bay. You can go whale watching and charter sailing, visit wineries, or go hiking.

4) Massachusetts’ thriving food scene

The state of Massachusetts offers a wide range of cuisine, and as a resident, you can find nearly anything you’re craving. The Bay State is famous for its seafood, from lobster rolls to clam chowder. Massachusetts is also known for its oysters, with some of the world’s best oysters harvested at Wellfleet, Duxbury, Barnstable, Katama Bay, Buzzard’s Bay, and East Dennis. You can also find terrific BBQ, Mexican, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Italian, and more, all across the state.

5) Rich history

Massachusetts has a rich history and is one of the best places for history buffs. Not only was the state one of the 13 original colonies, but it’s also where the Boston Tea Party and the Salem Witch Trials took place. And this is all just scraping the surface. Massachusetts is also home to the Lexington Battle Green, properly known as Lexington Common, and the start of the American Industrial Revolution and the Internet Revolution.

6) Things to do

If you move to Massachusetts, be sure to check out the Freedom Trail to learn about American history through local tours, museums, churches, and much more. Visit local zoos, head to the beach, or go to Six Flags New England. Take a trip to Cape Cod, explore Beacon Hill in Boston, attend a game of Fenway Park, or visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. From cultural activities to exciting professional sporting events, there’s an activity for everyone.

7) Weather

If you are a 4-season type person, you’ll love Massachusetts. Residents enjoy exceptional summers and stunningly colorful autumns. Some consider Masschussets’ winters brutal. However, the state’s climate is deemed to be temperate. Winters can get quite cold and snow, with a low of 16 degrees in January. Summers see a high of 82 degrees in July.

Methodology: Median home sale price data was pulled from the US Housing Market resource during April 2022.
